Sea turtle Roza has arrived

Today, on July 20th 2022, a sea turtle named Roza arrived to the rehabilitation pool in Brijuni National Park in collaboration with Aquarium Pula. Roza is a loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) found at the surface of the sea, floating in the area around Split.

After the first examination, it was shown that the individual has an inverted scrotum (cloacal prolapse). Cloaca is an exit channel for the urinary, digestive and sexual systems. There is a probability that the prolapse occurred during nesting, given that Roza is a sexually mature female. X-rays did not show any external bodies and blood samples were normal. At first, Roza was placed in the Veterinary clinic under care of veterinarian Mario Gavranović, she was then transported to Aquarium Wildlife recovery center on May, 5th, 2023. After receiving the needed care by the professionals, for about two months, Roza showed a good appetite, however she did not regain normal buoyancy so she was moved to a deeper (outdoor) pool, in Brijuni recovery center.
